Are Those "Unclaimed Money" Sites Really Legit?

According to one online article:

"Yes, such businesses are legal, and in many cases the claimed windfall does exist. But consumers can easily find and recover such funds on their own, free of charge.

When the rightful owners can't be found, employers, banks, pension administrators, insurance companies, etc. are required by law to turn over unclaimed property to the state.

For example in California there is currently over $5 Billion Dollars that belongs to people!

HUD Also Has Unclaimed Monies!

The Department of Housing and Urban Development has money that has been held because it has not been claimed! A good deal of the time the kind of unclaimed money that is being held is more than likely mortgage-insurance fees that were paid up front to the Federal Housing Administration.

People Are Interested In Finding Out More About Unclaimed Money!

I see that there have been quite a few visitors to this blog that I made about unclaimed money. I first found out about unclaimed money and what it was all about when I was reading my local paper and they had an insert that contained a long list of people who had unclaimed money that was due them. This insert was about 10 pages long and it had a list of individuals and businesses that have unclaimed money that hadn't been claimed yet. And I have to repeat that this was a very long list!

In my work as a grant researcher, I have found that there are a lot of sources out there for people to be able to obtain money - in fact money that they are entitled to and don't have to pay for!

Do you know that some people have won the lottery but had not claimed their money? This also falls under the heading of unclaimed money. People die and leave estates that have money due them but the heirs don't know about it. This also comes under the heading of unclaimed money. Lost or forgotten bank accounts, insurance money proceeds and the like also fall under the heading of unclaimed money.

I will post more information as I get it.

Did You Buy A Lottery Ticket Within The Last Year?

Or do you know of anybody who bought a lottery ticket within the last year in Arizona? If you did or if you do then you should really check your lottery ticket numbers again!

Why?

Because according to the state hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of lottery ticket prize money will expire because they will be considered unclaimed within the few months!

Two $200,000 Powerball prizes and one "jackpot" Pick 5 ticket remain unclaimed and will expire within the next 2½ months!

Last year in Arizona alone over $8,000, 000 Million Dollars went unclaimed in 2007.

If you are wondering what happens to that

"unclaimed money"

- about 30 percent the unclaimed prize money goes to a special advocates program. The rest just gets put back into the lottery prize fund.

At the present time there are a couple of lottery tickets that hold a special importance:

  • one is a Powerball ticket with a prize of $200,000 that will expire on Thursday, March 13, 2008!. It was purchased at a Chevron on Fortuna Drive in Yuma. The winning numbers on the ticket are ........and ......

  • another Powerball, also redeemable for $200,000, expires May 15th of this year. It was purchased at a Circle K store off of Arizona 92 in Sierra Vista. Those winning numbers are ......and..........

  • A Pick 5 "jackpot" ticket worth an undisclosed amount will expire on May 29th of this year! It was bought at a Circle K on the 8600 block of North 27th Avenue in northwest Phoenix. The numbers are ....................and ........

In the state of Arizona, lottery winners have 180 days to claim their prizes after the numbers are drawn.

For a list of more unclaimed lottery prizes you can go to the state's website or a special website that has been set up specifically for unclaimed lottery winnings.

A Local TV News Story About Unclaimed Money

A local TV station in New York City did a broadcast about the unclaimed money situation in New York. Over 300 people called the station to find out if they were entitled to any of the unclaimed money that the news show was talking out.

About 10% of those that called asking about whether or not they were eligible to claim any unclaimed money found out that they were entitled to receive some!

Although that may not seem like big odds, New York is a very BIG city.

To find out if you are eligible for any unclaimed money in New York you should visit the state's website to find out more information about the unclaimed money in that state.
