Unclaimed Money! Here Is Another Excerpt!

Did you know the IRS has $1.3-billion in unclaimed refunds?

IRS has $1.3-billion in unclaimed refunds!

If you did not file a 2006 federal tax return, you may be eligible to collect an
unclaimed refund. Pennsylvanians are estimated to be eligible for $45 million of the $1.3 billion. According to the IRS, you must file a return for 2006 that is postmarked by April 15, 2010.

The IRS also says that no penalties are assessed for being late in filing for a
refund. Also, if you paid for long-distance phone service, you are also eligible for refunds of federal excise taxes billed from March 2003 through July 2006.

The refunds are about $30 for individuals or $60 per couple.

In addition, many low-and-moderate income workers may not have claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The EITC helps individuals and families whose incomes are below certain thresholds, which in 2006 were $38,348 for those with two or more
children, $34,001 for people with one child and $14,120 for those with no
children.

Any refund money, though, the IRS warns, could automatically be applied to other
obligations, such as court-ordered child support or taxes owed for other years.
